application process

HOW TO APPLY

The Peter Harrison Foundation operates a two-stage application process:

Step 1:        Initial Enquiry - to check whether your project might be of interest to the Peter Harrison Foundation

Step 2:        Full Application

Please read the information about Eligibility and Grant Programmes carefully.  The majority of queries raised by applicants are answered on our FAQs page.   It is important to ensure that your charity and your particular project meet our grants criteria before you contact us.  If you would like to look first at the Application Questions on the Initial Enquiry Form please click here Application Questions

Step 1: Initial Enquiry

If your organisation is eligible to apply and you feel your project fits one of the two grant programmes that are open to applications (i. Opportunities Through Sport, and ii. Special Needs and Care for Children and Young People), then please complete our online Initial Enquiry Form.

Please click here to access the online Initial Enquiry Form.

On submission of your form you will be send an email confirming receipt.

We aim to process your Initial Enquiry as quickly as possible, but please be aware that the Foundation receives a large number of grant enquiries and it may sometimes take up to two months for your Initial Enquiry to be considered.

Initial Enquiries are first assessed by the Foundation’s staff.  If the Foundation Director feels the project may be of interest to the Trustees, he will arrange either to visit your project or to conduct a telephone discussion with you about it.  Depending on the outcome of these discussions, you may then be invited to submit a full application.

If your initial enquiry is not successful we will let you know by email.  We regret that we are unable to provide feedback explaining why a particular proposal was unsuccessful.  Unfortunately, the Foundation receives many more requests for funding than we are able to support and we regret that we have to turn down many good proposals, even though they meet our criteria.

Step 2: Full Application

You should only complete a full application form if your initial enquiry has been successful and you have been specifically invited to submit a full application by a member of the Foundation’s staff.

To download the full application form in Word format, please click here.

The completed Application Form should be sent by post to the Foundation. The Foundation Director will assess the proposal and then make a report and recommendations on your application to the Trustees.

The Trustees hold regular meetings to consider these reports. We will write to you as soon as possible after your application has been considered to let you know the outcome.

IF YOUR FULL APPLICATION IS SUCCESSFUL

If your application is successful, we will normally contact you by telephone and then send you a Grant Offer letter.

The letter will explain the conditions which apply to all grant awards and also set out any special conditions which apply to your charity. We will also explain how and when your charity will receive its grant, and how payment is made.

IF YOUR FULL APPLICATION IS UNSUCCESSFUL

We will contact you to let you know if your application is not successful. The main reason for not funding projects is that we receive many more applications than we can support and we inevitably have to disappoint many of the charities that apply to us.

HOW WE MONITOR GRANTS AWARDED

Charities supported by the Foundation are required to show how they have used the grant and, depending on the grant amount and the nature of the project, may be asked to undertake a review and evaluation of the project being funded. This will normally be on completion of the project - but, for charities receiving their grant in several instalments, we usually ask for interim progress reports.

Full details of the monitoring information required are given in the Foundation's grant offer letter.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

The Peter Harrison Foundation aims to ensure that all grant applications that are eligible for consideration within the Foundation's grants criteria are given equal consideration, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, or disability.
