Lt (SCC) Peter Bishop RNR receives Peter Harrison Award for Voluntary Service

Nov 2021

We are delighted to honour Lt (SCC) Peter Bishop RNR with the first ever Peter Harrison Award for Voluntary Service.

Lt Peter Bishop, the Commanding Officer of Reigate Sea Cadets, has been a committed volunteer for over 29 years.  Peter also runs the Unit’s RYA Training Centre at their Boating venue and teaches Cadets Sail and Powerboating skills during the boating season. Additionally, as District Staff Officer for Information Technology, during lockdowns Peter ensured that his Cadets were still actively engaged through virtual and, when permitted, Covid-safe face-to-face sessions.

Apart from commending Lt Bishop’s lifelong commitment to helping others, in such a variety of ways, the late Peter Harrison would have been delighted that the first award in his name honours a volunteer who shares his affinity with the sea.

The award was presented by the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Cllr Jill Bray, on 21st September at the Reigate & Banstead Volunteer Awards, a scheme organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council in partnership with Voluntary Action Reigate and Banstead (VARB).
