Welcome to the Peter Harrison Foundation
The Peter Harrison Foundation is an independent grant-making trust which supports voluntary and community organisations working in any part of the UK.
A new director for the Peter Harrison Foundation
The Trustees of the Peter Harrison Foundation have appointed Sarah Ridley to be Director of the Foundation from February 2022, following the retirement of Andrew Ross OBE, who had been Director since 2014.
Sarah has over 30 years’ experience of charitable grant giving in the UK and US. From 2014 to 2021 she was responsible for The London Marathon Charitable Trust’s substantial grants programme, helping to encourage wider participation in physical activity. Before that she was Executive Director of environmental charity the Tubney Charitable Trust. Previously she worked in Washington DC where she distributed grants for national cultural projects on behalf of two US Presidents and developed access and outreach programmes for the Smithsonian Institution. She has herself served on numerous boards, including Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors Europe and the BBC Wildlife Fund. She is currently a trustee of the Charles Dickens Museum and Carers Worldwide. She has been an independent adviser on philanthropy and has also written and presented on the subject for the Association of Charitable Foundations and Bayes Business School amongst others.
“I am delighted to be joining the Peter Harrison Foundation to continue the impactful work that the Trustees, Andrew and staff have delivered together. I look forward to the opportunity to support organisations and individuals to strengthen their impact in their local communities and beyond.”
Peter Lee, Trustee, said: “The Trustees of the Peter Harrison Foundation would like to thank Andrew for his enormous contribution to the Foundation over the last seven years to make it what it is today, and wish him well in his retirement. We look forward to welcoming Sarah to The Foundation in February and continuing the charity’s important work.”
